ICT is currently one of the most important skills required at all levels and across many subjects. It is a vital skill needed by employees today and those going on to further education. The S1 ICT course will enable pupils to acquire relevant and transferable ICT skills which they will be able to use across many different subjects and outside school. By the end of S1 all pupils will have covered:

  • Internet safety
  • Word processing
  • Serif DrawPlus
  • Microbit programming
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Databases

These topics will be further built upon through an end of year project and throughout S2. Pupils are encouraged to use their skills in all other subjects in school to ensure they always produce their best quality work.

The course is in place to develop pupil’s skills for life, learning and work by focusing on all areas of the Business Education and Computing curriculum. We have developed four sections:

  • Accounting
  • Administration
  • Business Management
  • Computing.

This allows the learners to focus on all four elements that are taught in senior years and using ICT to complete tasks that would be undertaken in each of these areas. By doing this, pupils gain an understanding of what each of the courses are like, allowing the young people to make a more informed course choice decision in S3 and onwards.

Within the course, classes are working for a Recruitment Agency. We have linked all tasks to a simulated workplace, to allow for lessons that are more relevant. This will also build on the learners entrepreneurial and employability skills. The tasks are a mix of individual and group work to build on pupil confidence and class participation. All tasks completed help improve a pupils ICT skills and this will help them not only in Business Education and Computing but also in their other subjects and in their wider life outwith school.

The lessons have been produced to give pupils an insight into future courses at Levenmouth Academy, but also to show them what career choices, within our field, are available after school.

Pupils undertaking this ICT course will develop and improve many of their skills:

  • ICT
  • Verbal and Written Communication
