National 4/5 P.E.
The National Physical Education course comprises of two units of study:
- Factors Impacting on Performance
These units enable pupils to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding required to perform effectively in a range of physical activities, and enhance their physical wellbeing.
Assessment at National 5 consists of two components:
Performance: Assesses the candidate’s ability to effectively perform in two different physical activities based on course activities or own choice (subject to teachers’ discretion). The performance has 60 marks (50% of the course award).
Portfolio: Assesses the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the performance development process based on an activity of choice, creating an individual training programme and monitoring fitness levels as well as skill development. The portfolio has 60 marks (50% of the course award).
Assessment at National 4 consists of successful completion of the two mandatory units above and an Added Value Unit:
Performance Skills: to develop a range of movement and performance skills in physical activities.
Performance: Learners will prepare for and carry out a performance, which will allow them to demonstrate challenge and application.
Factors Impacting on Performance: candidates develop their knowledge of factors that impact on personal performance in physical activities.
