    Library Blog

    Mr Russell's musings..

This past week pupils in the senior phase have been working hard in revising for their up-coming prelims. The library has been a place for group studying, individual studying, and library after-hours studying which is nice to see.

There is a desire to succeed!

The library should be the beating heart of the school: a place for reading, learning and relaxation and where people feel valued. The support of the chartered librarian- I am an academic at heart- allows an informal mentoring process to take place. I have in recent years sat modern SQA exams in Advanced Higher English and Politics (both grade ‘A’ passes) just to be sure of what it is like to be a modern student and raise my own awareness of the needs for pupils in our school. It can be tough for young people and knowing that the library is there is a huge benefit for them; and it is but one-cog in school machinery that supports learners needs (HIGIOS 3.1).

On the horizon for me: the Fife Lit quiz in early February at Waid Academy; the annual book fair just after half-term; and in early March it is the Fife Schools Rotary Quiz.
