    Mr Russell's musings..

Happy New Year to one and all from the library!

As a librarian I get a lot of book tokens for Christmas. I always enjoy browsing bookshops etc. and this year I was lucky to meet Dr Greg Whelan who is the manager of Waterstones West End branch in Edinburgh. He is a former pupil of Kirkland, where I was librarian for 16-and-a-half years before transferring to Levenmouth, and his gran was my first cleaner when I started in 1999! Small world! His doctorate is in literature too (not sure what branch) but it shows that in a small way the library did have an impact coupled with some fantastic teachers back then, too. Dr Whelan’s year-group were academically stratospheric and others have gone on to be very  successful in their fields too. The study skills, the library banter, the reading groups, chess club and a fantastic team of dedicated teachers impacted positively on the class of 2005!

To the current S6 at Levenmouth Academy- work hard and study as the prelims are around the corner. All the best!

A book of note that I received for Christmas:

Arp, Robert.  1001 quotations to inspire you before you die. London: Cassell Illustrated, 2018.
