    BGE P.E.

    S1 & S2

    Pupils get three periods of mandatory PE per week. In our department, students will learn the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes that contribute to their physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing. Students participate in short blocks of activities which seek to develop the significant aspects of learning. These are physical fitness, physical competencies, cognitive skills and personal qualities. Classes are comprised of single sex and some of the activities that pupils undertake are rugby, fitness, netball, gymnastics, dance, football, basketball and badminton.

    S3

    S3 students get three periods of mandatory PE per week. In two of those periods, students are given a choice from approximately 6 options which they will undertake a short block in the activity that they have chosen. The third period is a single sex class with a short block of one activity. Again, the activities on offer seek to develop the significant aspects of learning and students will learn the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes that contribute to their physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing.

     

     

    S1-S2 DES Elective

    Alongside core PE pupils in S1 and S2 have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills of physical education by choosing to engage in blocks of elective courses. These classes consist of two periods a week.

     These courses are:

     

    Multi-Games

    In this elective course students will participate in a range of different sports and activities. These activities are different than those done in core PE, and for example include: Tchoukball, heady-handball, dodge-ball, uni-hock, ultimate frisbee and orienteering.

    Through these games’ students learn and develop skills that relate to the education Scotland’s Benchmarks of physical fitness, physical competencies, cognitive skills and personal qualities in an engaging and fun environment.

    Bring it on

    Students participate in a course styled around gymnastics, acrobatics and cheerleading which allows them to build on skills learnt in core PE.

    Recent activities include group cheerleading and individual acrobatic routines on equipment, as well as external partner group Eden Movement coming in to deliver parkour/free running sessions. Through the varying experiences and outcomes, students work towards the PE benchmarks, which aim to enhance physical, cognitive and personal qualities in an engaging environment.
